Join us this Sunday, either in person or online, as we discuss The Lynching of Emmett Till.
Today we’ll discuss two videos about the 1955 brutal murder of Emmett Till, a 14-year-old Black boy allegedly flirted with a white woman in a grocery store in Money, Mississippi and its effect on Jim Crow laws and culture in the USA.
The Murder of Emmett Till is an August 2020 episode of American Experience on PBS. Till’s death was a spark that helped mobilize the Civil Rights movement. Three months after his body was pulled from the Tallahatchie River, the Montgomery bus boycott began.

The documentary, If Emmett Till Lived is a personal view of young Emmett Till and the life he could have had. Historian Sarah Elizabeth Lewis is the curator behind If Emmett Till Lived and editor of the book. She collaborated on the project with Till’s surviving cousin, Reverend Wheeler Parker Jr.
If Emmett Till Lived is the second half of the August 4, 2026 showing of Democracy Now! an hour-long independent American television, radio, and Internet news program based in Manhattan and hosted by journalist Amy Goodman
