The Shutdown of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant

Gene Nelson

11 a.m., February 28, 2021

At this Sunday’s Humanist Forum, Gene Nelson will discuss “The Shutdown of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant”.

In the wake of the Fukushima Daiichi disaster, PG&E announced that it would not renew the licenses for the plant. In 2018 the California Public Utilities Commission approved the shutdown scheduled for 2024-2025.

Gene Nelson will present the case for reversing this decision. Gene is the Government Liaison of Californians for Green Nuclear Power. Gene has been active in matters of science and public policy, providing testimony on Diablo Canyon Power Plant’s safety, reliability, and emission-free power before the Diablo Canyon Independent Safety Committee, California Coastal Commission, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the State Water Resources Control Board, and The California Public Utilities Commission.
