You can join us, too, either in person or online,<br \/>\nas we discuss mental health and how to get help for a person in distress.<br \/>\nIn her 30-minute presentation, topics include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is Mental Health?<\/li>\n<li>Facts and Figures<\/li>\n<li>Mental Health Distress and Mental Illness<\/li>\n<li>Signs to Recognize<\/li>\n<li>Impact of Culture<\/li>\n<li>Impact of Stigma<\/li>\n<li>How to get help for yourself or assist a person in distress<\/li>\n<li>Treatment and Recovery<\/li>\n<li>Free Resources Available in Santa Clara County<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For over 20 years, Barb has worn many hats at National Alliance for the Mentally Ill-Santa Clara County.<br \/>\nShe has facilitated education classes, support groups and coordinated multiple programs.<br \/>\nRetired in 2022 after 45 years in technical sales, she is excited to be working in an outreach role expanding the NAMI programs within Santa Clara County.<br \/>\nBarb is a family member of NAMI-SCC whose son, John lived with schizophrenia for 25 years.<br \/>\nFounded in 1975 as the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill,<br \/>\nNAMI works to achieve equitable services and treatment for more than 15 million Americans living with mental illnesses and their families.<br \/>\nNAMI-SCC, the largest NAMI affiliate in California has worked in Santa Clara County for over 50 years<br \/>\nproviding support, education and advocacy to help individuals and families living with mental health conditions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17015\" src=\"http:\/\/www.humanists.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/thumbnail-August.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"608\" height=\"179\"><\/p>\n<p><b>&#x1f4cd; Attend in Person<\/b><br \/>\nJoin fellow Humanists in the <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/8qp5ifvWqghaZiup7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Old Mill Clubhouse, 49 Showers Dr, Mountain View, CA 94040<\/a>.
