Join us this Sunday, either in person or online, as we discuss The Lynching of Emmett Till.
\nToday we\u2019ll discuss two videos about the 1955 brutal murder of Emmett Till, a 14-year-old Black boy allegedly flirted with a white woman in a grocery store in Money, Mississippi and its effect on Jim Crow laws and culture in the USA.
\nThe Murder of Emmett Till<\/em><\/strong> is an August 2020 episode of American Experience on PBS. Till’s death was a spark that helped mobilize the Civil Rights movement. Three months after his body was pulled from the Tallahatchie River, the Montgomery bus boycott began.

\nThe documentary, If Emmett Till Lived<\/em><\/strong> is a personal view of young Emmett Till and the life he could have had. Historian Sarah Elizabeth Lewis is the curator behind If Emmett Till Lived and editor of the book. She collaborated on the project with Till\u2019s surviving cousin, Reverend Wheeler Parker Jr.
\nIf Emmett Till Lived<\/em><\/strong> is the second half of the August 4, 2026 showing of Democracy Now!<\/strong> an hour-long independent American television, radio, and Internet news program based in Manhattan and hosted by journalist Amy Goodman
